The IPT is a series of language proficiency assessments for language learners in grades Pre-K–12. They are widely used in many districts and schools across the nation for their accuracy and their ease-of-use.

Whether used for identification, placement, year-to-year, progress, or redesignation, the IPT tests evaluate students’ oral, reading, and writing proficiency and are available in both English and Spanish.

Oral Tests
The oral tests are administered individually and are scored as a student is being tested. On average, it takes 15–25 minutes to administer and score the oral test, with no complicated formulas necessary.

Reading and Writing Tests
The reading and writing tests are group administered and untimed. On average, it takes 60 minutes to complete the reading test and 35 minutes to complete the writing test.

Nationally Normed and Grade Appropriate
The IPT Tests are nationally normed to the highest standards and aligned to TESOL standards. The chart below indicates which IPT Tests are appropriate for each grade level, from Pre-K–12.

* The IPT II Oral English and Spanish are also normed on sixth graders. The sixth-grade band is convenient for middle schools with grades 6-8.
