Carousel of IDEAS and Champion of IDEAS are based on scientific research on how students best learn a language. Our programs strike a balance between early approaches to language acquisition that favor comprehensible language instruction and new approaches that favor explicit instruction and grammatical accuracy. In other words, acquiring a language naturally through exposure and also being taught through explicit instruction. Carousel and Champion have a scope and sequence that helps teachers instruct ELs, in usage and grammar and oral, social, and academic language. We equip your teachers with teacher friendly lessons that accelerate language development and bridge the literacy and language gap between your ELs and mainstream students. With Carousel and Champion, your teachers will have a clear map to ensure your ELs become proficient in English as quickly as possible.

Carousel and Champion are organized by language level rather than grade level, and that’s because language is developmental. The students’ language level is more important than their grade level in developing English language proficiency.

Carousel and Champion are designed to provide flexibility in teaching and learning. Teachers can use either program in an immersion class, dual language class, as a pull-out program, or for general English language development instruction in tutoring or small group contexts. The variety of activities and teaching strategies enable teachers to address a wide range of learning styles, student abilities, and student interests. Carousel and Champion can also be used in a single grade or multi-grade class.
