    Black Kingdoms of the Nile. The PBS-sponsored web site looks at the Nubian civilization through short summaries covering the Kushite society and the city of Meroë. After scanning the text and looking at the pictures, click on the illustration of Africa to expand your knowledge of the rich cultures and peoples of this continent.

    Ancient Sudan: The Kingdom of Kush at Meroë. Select each thumbnail picture on the site to see a bigger view of some figures and pottery found in Meroë. There are also photos of the Kushite temple complex and other ancient buildings. Every photograph comes with a brief description of the object or place that it shows.

Test your knowledge by answering ten quiz questions and go to the vocabulary page to learn or review some difficult words and phrases.     Ancient Nubian Queens. Women were extremely important to the Nubian culture and sometimes held places of great power. Even the Egyptian goddess, Isis, was a popular figure in their mythology. After you look at the essay, pay attention to the links.
