Short biographies tell about the lives and achievements of more than 60 women of the American West, including Sacajawea and Jesse Benton Fremont. Illustrated with black and white photographs. This well written book contains many interesting details of the Lewis and Clark expedition, including maps and a time line of the lives of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark. 143 pages.

    Sanford, William R. and Carl R. Green. Kit Carson: Frontier Scout. Springfield: Enslow Publishers, Inc., 1996. This well-researched book tells the true story of Kit Carson, one of the West's greatest heroes. It includes Chapter notes, a glossary, and a bibliography. 42 pages.

    Sinnott, Susan. The World's Great Explorers: Zebulon Pike. Danbury: Children's Press, Inc., 1990. This survey of Pike's expeditions contains many interesting illustrations, maps, quotations from his journals, and a time line of his life. 113 pages.
