Ballard & Tighe Offers Professional Development Courses Online to Teachers of English Language Learners

— Self-paced, accredited online courses enhance educators’ skills and progress —

BREA, CA – (February 9, 2004) – Ballard & Tighe has launched a new web site —
www.opd.ballard-tighe.com — offering a series of innovative professional development courses to administrators and teachers of English Language Learners, in a highly accessible and convenient online format.

Ballard & Tighe has a distinguished history of offering teachers effective training and precise strategies to enable them to maximize student learning. Building on this history, the company has developed a series of online courses for English Language Development, Reading, Literacy, and SDAIE (Specially Designed Academic Instruction in English).

These courses emphasize strategies and techniques to increase the teacher’s ability to educate a growing population of English learners. All courses are fully accredited through Chapman University in California. Successful completion of each course allows course participants to earn either one or three units of semester academic credit, which also may be useful for salary advancement and credential renewal.

“Teachers will find that our course content is outstanding and that they can immediately begin to integrate what they are learning in the courses into their curricular practices. The instruction will have a direct and immediate impact on their students’ education,” said Dr. Roberta Stathis, president of Ballard & Tighe.

Courses are self-paced — participants can work entirely at their own pace, according to their own schedules. Instructors are highly qualified, experienced educators and subject matter experts. Each instructor is skilled at communicating concepts in a user-friendly way, offering valuable feedback and support throughout the course.

“Busy educators may not be aware that, unlike traditional institutions, we don’t make participants wait until the end of the semester to receive their grades. Participants in our courses receive a letter of completion and their grades within one week of completing a course. This ensures that they will have no problems meeting their individual district or state deadlines for professional development units. Thus, educators taking Ballard & Tighe’s courses can directly reap the benefits of their self-paced work,” added Dr. Stathis.

Courses cover several topics, including The Fundamentals of Teaching English Language Development, Putting SDAIE Theory into Practice and Introducing ELD Techniques to Mainstream Teachers.
