Overview of the Program Picture & Word Cards These 4"x5" cards—displaying both illustrations (click to see sample) and photographs (click to see sample)—engage students in language learning and facilitate their comprehension of target vocabulary words. Set 1 includes more than 300 cards and Set 2 includes more than 260 cards. Each Picture Card includes a corresponding Word Card. The coding at the top right corner of the Picture & Word Cards, as well as the tabs in the box, corresponds to the program’s units and chapters. Student Picture Dictionaries Set 1 includes the IDEA Picture Dictionary 1 covering more than 600 nouns with corresponding pictures and translations in six languages. The book also includes an appendix on prepositions as well as activities and teaching strategies. Set 2 includes the IDEA Picture Dictionary 2 that has nearly 1,400 entries with colorful pictures, definitions, and sentences for each word. It also includes appendixes on idioms, U.S. presidents, geography, and other subject-area content. Language Progress Card The Language Progress Card, which comes in packs of 25, enables you to view the scope and sequence of the Carousel program and keep track of individual student progress. Along with the Teacher’s Guide, the card is an excellent resource for preplanning. The card provides an outline of the topics, types of language produced, and language forms introduced in each unit. These sturdy 8.5"x11" cards can stay in students’ files and can be used to quickly view what students have studied, as well as to chart their progress. This card also may be used as an informational tool in parent conferences. The Language Progress Card is discussed further in the Evaluation section of this inservice.
