Delivering the Lesson
4. In the next section, Apply & Extend, students complete tasks that build upon the target vocabulary and language functions and forms they have been learning. The activities in this section develop critical thinking skills, require creativity, and often involve important academic skills students need in order to succeed in the classroom. In our sample lesson, students use Activity Sheet 1 to compare and contrast. They complete a Venn diagram and write sentences using comparative structures (e.g., faster than/slower than). They look up target vocabulary in the IDEA Picture Dictionary 2, use those words orally in sentences, and then write the words on Template B.
